Manitou Coffee and Tea Show Logo

Your invitation to experience the coffee community on a deeper level.

What is Manitou?

In Algonquian Native American mythology, Manitou is the spiritual life force that is omnipresent and manifests in the environment, organisms, and events. It is a fundamental aspect of the balance and interconnection of life and nature.

At Black Lodge Coffee Roasters, we acknowledge Manitou as the force that has allowed us to manifest so many meaningful relationships surrounding coffee.

When it came time to envision, plan, and ultimately name our upcoming coffee & tea show it was an obvious choice to honor Manitou by creating a space for anyone who is interested in our industry to connect and indulge in the expansion of our community.

The Manitou Coffee & Tea Show is exactly that; Your opportunity to experience the coffee & tea community through an unfiltered lens regardless of where you’re at on your journey.

Meet the vendors and coffee professionals who will be attending the Manitou Coffee & Tea Show

Vendors

Meet Annalisa & Hunter Thewis, the owners of Antler Specialty Goods. Creativity is the driving force behind Antler. This comes with ever changing menus, unique offerings, homemade flavors, and lots of experimenting.

They release seasonal blends and feature a range of single origins with a focus on displaying the quality of coffee. Community is another big part of their business, bringing people closer together by building a space that revolves around enjoying the craft and comradery of the industry which inspired our slogan “getting great coffee into good hands.”

Meet Susie Cooley, the baker and owner behind Finch’s Confections. Susie started Finch’s with a desire to share her enthusiasm for the simple things in life which she finds pleasurable. For her, baking isn’t just about making something sweet—it’s about creating something that sparks a memory, a moment of joy, or a conversation.

When you stop by Susie’s booth, expect more than just a sweet treat. Expect something made with care, passion, and a lot of heart. She will fill her booth with personality, and can’t wait to share a little piece of her story with you.

Meet Jim Loughrie, who, with his two sons, operates Loughrie’s Honey in Boonville, IN.

Put plainly, Jim loves coffee and has become a staple at all vendor markets in the Southern Indiana area. His product speaks for itself and has found itself utilized in many local coffee shops, including our own. Whether you’re sweetening a matcha latte, drizzling on top of some fresh fruit, or eating it by itself— Loughrie’s Honey, in our humble opinion, is as good as it gets.

You can expect to learn about Jim’s process while also having the opportunity to purchase his honey when you stop by his booth.

Piper & Leaf Tea Co. is a family-owned, family-operated, tea company based in Laceys Spring Alabama. They create gourmet blends of tea that are simply divine to sip - iced on a steamy summer day or hot on a long winter evening - and Serving the Joy are our passions.

All of their teas are blended with as many local ingredients as possible - straight from the garden, farm, forest, and briar patch.

You can expect a showcase of their retail teas in loose leaf and tea bags, their unique tea brewing system, as well as an exchange of stories, brew demos, tea tastings, and just a fun time!

Meet Russ Meredith, the founder of The Beer Syrup Company, which is a manufacturer of non-alcoholic syrups made from real craft beers and hard ciders. The syrups are a flavorful substitute for all sweeteners that can be used to make coffee and tea drinks, mocktails, cocktails, and all types of food dishes.

As a purveyor of syrups in the coffee and tea industry, Russ really enjoys seeing people try them for the first time and then hearing where their imagination takes them. The flavors are unique and very complementary with coffee and tea, so people are always coming up with creative recipes and he loves hearing other people's ideas on how they will use his Beer Syrups.

When you visit his booth at the Manitou Coffee and Tea Show, if you haven't tried the syrups yet, you'll definitely be surprised by the flavors and how many different ways they can be utilized in both food and drink recipes. You might even find your next favorite drink!

Meet Creation Shop, a sculpture and pottery workshop in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, run by artists Blayze Buseth & Desiree Logan, who curate the creation of one-of-a-kind ceramic art and hands-on workshops at their studio.

Blayze & Desiree identify coffee and tea as ways they bond with others, no matter where they are in the world. In their experiences as travelers, the daily rituals of coffee and tea drinking have provided moments to connect, learn about others, and discover how different cultures incorporate these beverages into their daily lives.

At their booth, they will showcase a host of experimental cup forms, created in stoneware and porcelain on the potter’s wheel. They invite you to hold and feel the cups, taking notice of the small details—from the shape of the form to the thin rim of the cup and even its weight. They maintain an open mind and welcome feedback, seeking to learn how they can make our cups even better!

Speakers

Meet Kent Parker, an entrepreneur & philanthropist who has worked across a broad spectrum of industries, from software to music, and of course including the coffee industry, whose culture has always held a special place for him.

Coffee is more than just a  drink—it’s an experience, a catalyst for conversation, and a point of connection. Kent is good friends with Alex Gale and Ben Ward, owners of Black Lodge Coffee, and has enjoyed  watching their very successful journey of growing and building their business. Reflecting  on his time at Caribou Coffee nearly 30 years ago, Kent has been able to live vicariously  through Alex and Ben, and their journey today.

When Kent was invited to join the Manitou  Coffee & Tea Show, he saw it as the perfect opportunity to explore how coffee continues to  fuel creativity, collaboration, and community. Kent is excited to share his perspective on  the role coffee plays in sparking ideas and bringing people together.

Meet Nic Main, a coffee enthusiast who has spent the last decade of his life working within the coffee industry.

The coffee community is small, yet innovative. Whether in home brewers or behind the counter baristas, latte artists to roasters alike. Each coffee passionate individual brings a different unique perspective to the discussion of what coffee is and what coffee should be. This is why I enjoy being engrained within it, as I believe hearing each perspective brings a new idea to the table to try and pushes my desire to learn more about the bean, even further.

Attendees at the show should expect a full dive into "Defining Origin". My own story began as a barista part time at Starbucks, then lead me to farms around the world. Not only do I want to take listeners back to those farms with me, but help them understand the importance of learning what it means to define their own origin story.

The Manitou Team

Meet the crew behind Manitou

Meet Alex Gale, an entrepreneur who has worked in the coffee industry for 22 years which has culminated in him operating his very own cafe and roastery, Black Lodge Coffee Roasters, nestled in Historic New Harmony, Indiana. In 2017, Alex discovered Black Lodge through a colleague of his and after a few years of working closely with the original owners, he would then be propelled into co-owning the shop of his dreams with his husband, Ben Ward.

Manitou Coffee & Tea show is a platform that will help grow your ecosystem and tap into a sense of curiosity from patron to industry, industry to industry, and industry to patron. During the show’s first iteration in 2023, one of his colleagues looked at him and said something that has stuck with him to this day: With a firm handshake and hug, his colleague said, “Alex you did it, you brought us all together under one roof on common grounds.” That is what he continues to think about, opportunities for growth within the local coffee and tea industry. That is why the Manitou Coffee & Tea Show exists.
